Tips for Reading Aloud to your Children
~Have a regular story time each day or night, for 10 to 15 minutes
~Find a quiet place --without the TV or radio on
~Read the story first, if you have time--this helps you make the story more interesting for your child
~Allow for enough time to talk about the story--this is a great way to have wonderful conversations
~Picture books with great colors and simple pictures are best for very young children
~Read nursery rhymes such as Mother Goose--little ones love the rhymes and silliness of these poems
~Toddlers love to sit on your lap while hearing stories--this is a great time to build closeness
~5 to 10 minutes is about as long as very young children can sit still for, while older children can usually sit still for at least 15 minutes
